Description
The Bradley IE Extensions are a set of tools that enhance Microsoft Internet
Explorer (version 4 or greater). When the Bradley IE Extensions are installed a
new toolbar button and a new item in the context menu will appear when using
Internet Explorer. The new context menu item is called 'Bradley IE Extensions...'. If you
select the context menu on an element and select 'Bradley IE Extensions...' the
menu drawn onto the current document. The menu contains information, actions
and tools that are relevant to the selected item. Using the toolbar button is
the same as selecting 'Bradley IE Extensions...' from the context menu
belonging to the page.
Each type of element has different information that is displayed and different
actions that can be selected. For example, selecting an image allows you to
see dimensions of the image and allows you to zoom the image or open it in a
new window. By selecting a piece of text you are able to change the font or
perform a search for the phrase. Selecting the page allows you
to expose the table structure or expose any forms or lookup the page on various
other web site. The tools are being updated and added to with each new release.
It is not currently possible to document all of the options but as you use the
Bradley IE Extensions you will find all of the features.
Some of the tools found in the application include "Expose Forms", "Expose Tables",
"Check Images", "Edit Page", "Google Search", "Google References", "Dictionary Check",
"Thesaurus Check", "Word Count", "Highlight Word", "Highlight Selection", "Resize Window",
"Picture Explorer", "Add to Favorites", "Zoom Page", "Zoom Item", "Open new Window",
"Target Links", "Apply Style" ...
If you already have a previous verions of Bradley IE Extensions installed then please remove
this first. Once you have installed the new version you will need to restart Internet Explorer.
Requirements
- Microsoft Windows with Microsoft Internet Explorer 4+
Known Problems
None.History
- Added better support for frames. Menu now opens in the top left corner of page
instead of the centre, so the title bar is always visible even in small frames.
Menu can be pinned to the page when scrolling. Added a word count function at
the page level, so you can count all words on the current page. Fixed the Check
image sizes function which had a bad bug preventing it from working at all.
Fixed the IMDb lookup function which had an old URL.
- Fixed a small bug in Picture Explorer. If you used the Next or Prev buttons
while thumbnails were still being downloaded it would stop downloading any more
thumbnails.
- Added a new function that appears when you select a block of text. The new item
will join multiple lines together and open the text as a URL in a new window.
Great for opening a link that has been wrapped and broken. Also tweaked the
default Picture Explorer settings to be friendlier to higher resolution screens.
- Added a search and lookup sub menu to text and page selection. The search and
lookup sub menu provides multiple places where you can search for a word. A
checkbox lets you select which sites to use for the search. Slightly changed the
colors of the menu. Fixed problem with WHOIS lookup for non www domains. Grouped
site and page functions into a sub menu.
- Added link to W3C HTML Validator and WHOIS domain ownership lookup. Changed the
highlighting used for Select Another Element so that it changes the background
color of the element to red instead of changing the border color. When the
border was changing elements were moving around the page and it was sometimes
difficult to select the element you were interested in.
- Added Highlight Element function. Added Apply Style function.
- Updated toolbar icon so that it looks better on XP. Added character iteration
support to Picture Explorer. Added Remove Formatting function. Added Save As
function. Fixed menu resizing problems with IE6.
- Cleaned up some rendering uglies. Updated Picture Explorer with some new
features and cleaner interface. Other small changes.
- Added tooltips to all menus and functions. Added Bobby usability website
functions. Some better error handling. Other small changes.
- Now handles frames a lot better from the toolbar button. If frames are detected
then a small anchor is added to each frame and can be selected to render the
menu in that particular frame. Added a section for certain elements to display
more information about the selected element. Updated the About section with
links to readme and to contact the author. Changed slightly some of the colors
and borders.
- Added the ability to select a new element and to select the parent element of
the current element. Cleaned up the Picture Explorer and added some more options
including a slideshow feature. A few small enhancements. Built installation with
new Visual Studio.NET installer project. The installation now requires the
updated version of Windows Installer.
- Changed the relationship between the menu rendering and the action scripts to
allow more flexibility in future designs changes. Added a few new functions.
Added separators and now the menus are a lot cleaner.
- New release. I have just released version 2.0.1.3 of the Bradley IE Extensions.
The latest version is a completely new implementation and is very different from
the version 1 releases. Unlike version 1, which added several new toolbar
buttons and context menu items to access the tools, version 2 provides just a
single toolbar button and context menu item. If selected though a DHTML menu is
rendered into the current document where all of the new tools can be selected.
If you launch the menu via the context menu then which functions are available
depends on what time of object you selected. The whole new design enables a lot
more tools to be presented and those tools are organised a lot better.
- Added the following functions: Edit Page, Page Details, Resize Window, Zoom
Page.
- Added a Zoom parameter to Picture Explorer which is supported by IE5.5+.
- I have updated the Bradley IE Extensions to version 1.1.2.1. I've just added new
functionality to the Picture Explorer (Local) to support zoom of the main image
for browsers that support the zoom style (eg. IE5.5+). I'm not sure if I'm going
to support the Remote version much longer - as the Local version is much cooler
- so I haven't added this feature to it. You can download the latest version of
these tools from here. Please be sure to uninstall any previous versions before
installing the new version.
