Ibble Dibbles - 16 to 13

After a couple of grading games that don't count towards the season standings, tonight was the first real game. We were up against our old foes Ibble Dibbles who knocked us out in the semis last season. The game started slowly and neither team was able to pull away. The scores were even at half time. The second half started a bit better and we were able to get a couple of points up on them. We were able to maintain the advantage the whole game and everytime they tried to draw back we steadied and denied them. They did get within 1 point with a couple of minutes to go but we didn't panic and just scored a couple more points. One of the best games for a long time. Even, clean and very competitive.

Added a new function that appears when you select a block of text. The new item will join multiple lines together and open the text as a URL in a new window. Great for opening a link that has been wrapped and broken. Also tweaked the default Picture Explorer settings to be friendlier to higher resolution screens.

Pumas - 26 to 10

Played the second grading game for the season against another new team. The game started of very evenly but it wasn't long before we built a bit of a lead. From there we were able to control the game and continue to pull away. Even though the score wasn't even very close the game was a lot more even. Another fun game and a great win.

Another cool Flash idea. Let's you sketch a basic drawing and send the drawing to a friend. What is special about this is when your friend receives the drawing it will redraw the sketch with the same strokes that were used to create it in the first place. Your friend can also add to your drawing and send it back to you.

Very well done 3D exploration of words and their equivalents. Never thought a thesaurus could look so good!

Moe's Team - 15 to 14

The start of another season and we are back on the court once again. Not sure how many seasons it has been now but it's a few years. This season we kept most of the same players from last season - the long timers - and picked up a couple of extras giving us a healthy 9 players to start the season.

The season always starts with a couple of grading games. Our first game was against Moe's Team which is just come up to A grade after winning B grade last season. They started the game very well and were a few points up before we managed to score. They played a good first half and were in front the whole time until we leveled the scores just before half time. The second half was almost a repeat of the first and again we managed to fight back and grab the lead in the last couple of minutes of the game. It was nice to start the season with a win and good to be playing some new competition.

ADSL

Decided it was time to finally get our ADSL connection organised. The first thing I did was to order a modem. Found out that I could get a good price on the NETGEAR DG814 DSL Modem Internet Gateway and placed my order. Only took a couple of days and the modem arrived. In the meantime I was checking out the forums over at www.broadbandchoice.com.au and Internode's new flat-rate plan caught my eye. Sounds like Internode are very highly respected by their customers and I thought the plan would be a good initial plan to go with. So I sent in my application on 18-Dec-02 and was informed to expect the service to be activated on about 08-Jan-03. But when I got back to Sydney on 06-Jan-03 everything was ready to go so I got my account activated and after only 30 minutes configuring the modem I was online. The whole process was surprisingly painless. I'm paying $99/month flat-rate for a 512/128 speed connection and during peak times priority is given to users with moderate download behaviour. I have been connected for just one week now and managed to download 2.74GB. I don't think I would be considered a heavy user but it's nice to know that I will never be hit with excess usage charges. The speed of ADSL is great but unfortunately I haven't had time to play any games yet.

Fixed Contact/Guestbook Function

I thought this functionality had been working but it looks like it hasn't actually been working for a long time. Unfortunately any messages that might have been sent have been lost for good. If you want to leave a message or get in contact it should be working now.

Added a search and lookup sub menu to text and page selection. The search and lookup sub menu provides multiple places where you can search for a word. A checkbox lets you select which sites to use for the search. Slightly changed the colors of the menu. Fixed problem with WHOIS lookup for non www domains. Grouped site and page functions into a sub menu.

Funny article from the Wall Street Journal about the "personalization technologies" used in the TiVo recorder to profile users favorite shows. Seems that peoples experience with the profiler has already prompted a few TV episodes about the subject.

Added link to W3C HTML Validator and WHOIS domain ownership lookup. Changed the highlighting used for Select Another Element so that it changes the background color of the element to red instead of changing the border color. When the border was changing elements were moving around the page and it was sometimes difficult to select the element you were interested in.

Ibble Dibbles - Semi Final - 13 to 14

Once again we made it to the semi finals for Sunday night netball. I suppose that isn't too much to brag about because there were only 4 teams playing this season and 4 places in the finals. But we did finish in second place on the ladder and only 1 point behind first place.

The semi final was against Ibble Dibbles who finished third. We have had mixed results against them during the season so it was going to be an interesting game. They started off the scoring but we soon followed and it was slow going early on. Actually the defense was very tough on both sides which explains the low scores. They managed to maintain a small advantage for most of the game but it was always close. With a couple of minutes to go we hit the front and it looked like we were going to get through. Unfortunately we turned it over a couple of times and they managed to score and end up winning by a single point.

Again it has been a good season and very successful even if we didn't make it to the grand final. Everybody is keen to come back next year when the new season starts in January 2003.
